Anyone like indie films?

Normally, Sundays around 4pm I'm napping, but this Sunday is special because my very good friend Marcos is showing his independent short film at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. So I'll be taking my Sunday afternoon nap on the road.

Marcos is Mexican and from New Mexico so right away you know this movie is gonna be a homerun!

The movie is called The Day the World Ended and it's billed as a family comedy. Here's a little synopsis of the flick as given to me by Marcos himself:

The Mora family is a traditional Catholic Hispanic family with a small house in the Martinez Town barrio of Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the time of 1950-something.

Chris Mora is a growing pre-teen boy with a huge crush on one of his classmates- his new feelings towards this girl of his dreams combined with her radiating beauty makes her so intimidating Chris cannot work up the nerve to talk to her. With the help of his younger brother, Isaac, a reckless plan is hatched to capture her affections- one that if not executed just right may have deadly consequences.

Auntie Naya Mora is an ornery old lady obsessed with praying to her Catholic Saints in her room in an apartment attached to the Martinez family house. She spends so much time praying and spending time with her precious Santos that there are suspicions afoot that she may be doing something else in her darkened room all that time - like indulging in the taboo activity of watching TV. But who knows?

The two character's longings for things and the way they go about attaining them certainly go against the culture and tradition of the era, and they are not without consequence when the lengths they go to get what they want collide in a wreck of a conclusion!
